You’re looking at a pristine baseball card of Ken Griffey Jr.

This rookie-year Bowman issue captures “The Kid” at the very beginning of a Hall of Fame career that would make him one of the most iconic and beloved players in baseball history.

Griffey went on to total 630 career home runs, earn 13 All-Star selections, and win 10 Gold Glove Awards, but this card shows him before superstardom, as a young Seattle Mariners outfielder fresh off a rapid climb through the minors.

The card back notes that Griffey was drafted by the Mariners as the No. 1 overall pick in June 1987, born in Donora, Pennsylvania, and made his professional debut at Bellingham in 1987 before playing for San Bernardino and Vermont in 1988.

His 1988 stat line shown on the back reflects the elite tools that made him a generational prospect, including a .325 average, 91 hits, 18 doubles, 13 home runs, 63 RBI, and 36 stolen bases.

This is the 1989 Bowman Baseball Ken Griffey Jr. rookie card #220, featuring the classic oversized Bowman design, Seattle Mariners designation, outfield position listing, and facsimile signature across the front.

The 1989 Bowman release is a key late-1980s rookie set for collectors, and Griffey’s #220 remains one of its centerpiece cards thanks to his Hall of Fame legacy and enduring hobby demand.
